A Time to Rejuvenate

As we look to the holiday break, this period will give us all a much-needed time to rejuvenate and enjoy time with our families.

For me, it will give me some time to open more boxes and unpack in our new house to make it feel more like a home. Speaking of home, I'm still very excited to be a part of the NVC college community and proudly charged with letting everyone know about San Antonio's higher education jewel called, Northwest Vista College.

Since I arrived in late August, there have been a variety of issues that have led to us searching for solutions on how to better communicate and provide a quality education for our students. These issues haven't been easy, but I'm confident our collaborative nature at NVC will help us find the best answers in the coming future.

In spite of these difficult conversations, I'm impressed with the high quality work and dedication put forth by faculty and staff. That “can-do” spirit is evident throughout the campus from tracking down students who are no-shows on class assignments, employees working tirelessly to complete projects and everyone's efforts to help students achieve success and realize their dreams.

As 2015 approaches, we have some major tasks to address such as reaffirmation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools which includes the submission of our compliance report in March and begin our preparations for our site visit in October.  Teams of employees have been working many hours to compile evidence that supports our mission and vision as well as tells the story of an outstanding and compassionate community college that exceeds expectations. Thank you for your important contributions.

We also will be working to draft our three-year strategic plan, and I look forward to working with faculty, staff, students and community leaders in charting our course for the next several years for NVC.

I hope to see many of you at the Dec. 19 Winter Social. Happy holidays!
