All College Meeting Notes

[image 2]The first All College Meeting of the fall semester on Sept. 14 welcomed a packed house of employees.

The meeting started with SeaWorld San Antonio’s Chris Jordan, director of Entertainment Operations, giving $3,000 to support the Jack Stone Award for New Music.

Faculty member Sally First kicked off the Employee Giving Campaign by encouraging the audience to participate in the campaign that ends Dec. 1. She said just a little helps and employees can pick from a variety of NVC and Alamo Colleges scholarships to donate to or a United Way charity.

[image 1]The parents of Ashley Lynn Degerstrom were also on hand to make a contribution to help build the scholarship honoring their daughter, who was a former NVC student and was tragically killed.

NVC president Jackie Claunch talked about the upcoming Baldrige examiners visit during the week of Oct. 8. For the second year in a row, NVC is again the only education institution selected for a site visit. Jackie said for new employees who are unfamiliar with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, she will be hosting an orientation soon. To learn more about NVC’s Baldrige Quest, click here.

Lisa McDaniel, NVC coordinator of Communication, announced the launch of VISTApix – a new online software to get marketing photos of the college. Five people were selected from a drawing to win framed photos of the college. They are: Christine Crowley, Susan Palmer, Simon Van Dijk, Vanessa Flores and Jose Olivares.

  • Mary Dixson, dean of Interdisciplinary Programs, told faculty if they want to help with voter registration, deputy registrars can go to their classes to register voters. She added a lot students have the misconception that there’s a fee to register to vote, when it’s free.

  • Jackie Claunch congratulated the NVC Veterans Affairs Team for winning four consecutive times the G.I. Jobs magazine “Military Friendly Schools Award.”
