Former NVC Faculty Member Among Fatalities in Balloon Crash


According to The Eagle newspaper in Bryan-College Station, Texas, former Northwest Vista College faculty member, Matthew Rowan, 34, and his wife, Sunday Stewart Rowan, were among the fatalities on board a hot air balloon crash July 30 in Lockhart, Texas.

Rowan taught chemistry at Northwest Vista in the spring and summer semesters of 2014. He also served as a faculty member at both Trinity University and St. Mary’s University.

Rowan earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Texas A&M and received a master’s of forensic sciences from George Washington University and a doctorate of pharmacology from the University of Texas Health Science Center.

The Texas A&M Foundation has established a scholarship in his memory which will benefit future students entering the Department of Chemistry at the university.
