Get Ready to Give

The Alamo Colleges Employee Giving Back campaign will launch this month with the five colleges and the District challenging each other on which group of employees can give the most.

The campaign features opportunities to support community services funded by the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, theFund (arts and cultural organizations) and the Alamo Colleges Foundation. The campaign closes Dec. 1.

During the last campaign, NVC raised more than $46,000 to benefit NVC and Alamo Colleges scholarships and programs, United Way agencies and arts and cultural organizations of theFund.

Lynne T. Dean, NVC director of Institutional Advancement, said what is very exciting about last year was that NVC increased its participation from 18 percent in 2010 to 26 percent in 2011.

“Our goal this year is to have 35 percent of our NVC faculty and staff participating in the campaign,” she added. “We want to emphasize to everyone that giving and participating matters more than how much you give. Those $5 and $10 contributions count in a big way and everyone who participates will help us reach that goal of 35 percent.”

This year, Christine Crowley, the former NVC dean of Library Resources, will be matching donations to the Ashley Lynn Degerstrom Scholarship. This scholarship was started by the parents and family of an NVC student who was tragically killed.

At the September All-College meeting, there will be an opportunity to meet Mr. and Mrs. Degerstrom and say hello to Christine, who retired from NVC last year.

In addition to the Degerstrom Scholarship, NVC has several other scholarships that need donors, such as the NVC Honoring Retired Employees Scholarship, the newly established Robert G. Marbut Jr. Scholarship for Public Service and the Vista Dash for Dollars 5K Kinesiology Scholarship.

Employees may contribute through the online portal at https://donor.united-e-way.org or use paper pledge forms available in Manzanillo Hall, Room 104G. If you have any questions about this year’s campaign, email Lynne or call Sally First or Patrick Troy, this year’s Campaign Co-Chairs.
