Area Boxer and Vista Grad Puts His Education First


Alex Rios Jr., Class of 2011, was in training and on his way to compete in the National Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in Salt Lake City, when a life-decision arrived. Alex, who had applied to the Physician’s Assistant program at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, received an invitation for an admittance interview the same week as his boxing tournament. Alex, put his boxing career on hold and chose instead to pursue his education. Alex earned his associate degree in science and also holds a bachelor’s in sports medicine from UTSA.
