February 26, 2015 | SharkAdmin [image 1]About 100 students heard insights on career pathways and employment that ranged from the importance of resumes, what to wear to job interviews to networking to treating college as a job as part of a two-day presentation for the NVC Business Student Organization. Two panels of speakers from the NVC Business Council took part in the event on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 in the Pecan Hall second floor lounge. Speakers on Tuesday talked about their education and career pathways to their present position and answered questions about degrees, participating in community service and student activities and the job market. [image 2]Tuesday panelists included Rosantina Aranda, vice president and business banker, Frost Bank; Renata Serafin, APR, director of NVC Public Relations; Erick Paschall, loan administration manager, Wells Fargo; and Kenny Vallespin, human resources business partner, The Bank of San Antonio. On Wednesday, speakers focused on employment, steps in the hiring process and what employers are looking for in the people they hire. Panelists included Shelah Simmons, Ph.D., CEO, Genesis Professional Solutions; Liliana Moreno, agency recruiting, State Farm; Andrea (Dre’) Hardeman, talent acquisition manager, Nationwide; and Marcia Caballero, director of sales, Courtyard by Marriott SeaWorld Westover Hills. [image 3]Overall, key messages to students centered on the value of gaining experience in both paid and unpaid positions, working hard, networking and being prepared. They also advised students to be “mobile” as job opportunities might be available in places outside of San Antonio and frequently these positions open up new career pathways.
