August 20, 2015 | SharkAdmin [image 1]Every year, Northwest Vista College's dual credit program increases in enrollment, and this year was the first year dual credit teachers and NVC faculty got together to network and discuss how to effectively work together at the first annual Dual Credit Convocation. The Dual Credit program allows high school students to take Alamo Colleges classes at their high school campuses. High school students are able to save hundreds of dollars because most of their Dual Credit classes are free. Julie Boerm, NVC's Dual Credit coordinator, said 119 guests were at the convocation that was targeted to private schools and the Northside and Boerne school districts. [image 2]”Seeing both high school instructors and college faculty together under one roof was simply amazing,” Julie said. “My goal was to strengthen our partnerships with the ISDs and private schools by showing them how much we appreciate their hard work. I also wanted them to know they are a big part of the NVC family.” The majority of the group was from NISD, which consisted of district curriculum leads, academic deans and liaisons. Anthony Jarrett, NISD's executive director of High School Instruction, was also present to lend his support to the Dual Credit program. [image 3]Julie added the convocation was also made possible with the help of about 30 NVC volunteers, which included staff, faculty, academic chairs and coordinators. NVC President Dr. Ric Baser also was present to give the opening remarks. “Together we can create better opportunities for our students by helping them further their education and hopefully complete a degree,” added Julie.
