NVC College Services Highlights Some Major Initiatves

[image 1]In every team and department at Northwest Vista College, there are always great stories to tell that show faculty and staff going above and beyond.

While it’s hard to capture every story, we hope to periodically share in this space some of the major accomplishments or projects that are taking place. Members of the executive team will write about important topics that they feel NVC employees should be made aware of.

Let us know about the positive things your area is doing to help students or improve processes by contacting myself or NVC Public Relations.

The spring 2016 semester is in full swing, and the NVC family has pulled together to work on several priorities with College Services, including the budget season launch, a successful 2015 inventory audit, and completion of the Response Report to the Visiting Committee for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Thank you to everyone who worked to locate items for the 2015 inventory audit. Dustin Taylor has joined the NVC Resource Management team and is leading inventory processes. We are awaiting the certified inventory results, and we are expecting results of over 99 percent of items resolved. The fiscal year 2017 budget season has started, and the FY17 Budget Development Kickoff presentation and Budget Worksheets are posted in Alamo Share. Please refer to these documents for pertinent information regarding the FY17 budget process.

An exciting and dynamic tool, Qualtrics Research Suite, is arriving at NVC. Eliza Hernandez, PhD, director of NVC Institutional Research, will be conducting meetings and training sessions campus-wide once Qualtrics is ready to launch, hopefully within a couple weeks. You will be amazed with what you can achieve, including surveys with imbedded data, mobile compatibility, and so much more – all while maintaining strict security requirements. You will also be hearing from Eliza this semester regarding end-of-course surveys, processes for institutional effectiveness and Community College Survey of Student Engagement or CCSSE surveys.

Eliza will also be communicating how the college is reevaluating the processes we use to show NVC’s dedication to student learning and furthering student success. We have invited Christine Shupala, Ph.D, associate vice president for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi to NVC to provide professional development for administrative unit assessment leads. Representatives from the President’s Office, Student Success, and College Services will attend a workshop on Friday afternoon on Feb. 19. to ensure institutional effectiveness practices are utilized to showcase NVC’s focus on supporting students. Assessment Day (Friday, Feb. 26) is being expanded campus-wide for the first time. Administrative units will utilize assessment day to operationalize the lessons learned from the 19th and review and update 2015-2016 outcomes, measures and targets.

Valarie White stepped down in early February from her position as the Teaching & Learning Facilitation (TLF) Evening/Weekend coordinator, but will remain with NVC as an adjunct instructor. We are evaluating the functions of the TLF department and are eager to align the department to meet the needs of NVC. TLF hours have changed to Monday-Thursday 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. TLF is also open the first Saturday of the month (like Student Success). Please contact the Alamo Colleges Department of Public Safety (DPS) for after-hours requests at 210-485-0099.

The College Services team wishes you a wonderful weekend and thanks you for all of your cooperation and support as we continue through an exciting spring semester.
