June 16, 2016 | SharkAdmin “My associate’s degree gave me the feeling that I could do anything I set my mind to.” Amanda Middleton graduated from Northwest Vista College in 2009, with an associate degree in Education. She completed her bachelor’s degree from Schreiner University and is now a kindergarten teacher for the Northside Independent School District, a goal she’s had since second grade. In addition to work and school, Amanda is also an active contestant in various pageants. She currently holds the title of Ms. San Antonio United America 2013. Her pageant experience has resulted in Amanda winning several international, national and state-wide titles. Amanda considers her associate degree as the one thing that set her apart from others professionally. “I was able to advance my career because I held my associate’s degree from NVC, compared to other applicants who had not yet received a degree,” she says. Amanda feels what she learned at Northwest Vista helped advance her career goals and succeed in school. “It pushed me to keep going, pursue my dreams and continue my education,” she says. “Academically, I was able to be successful because most of my teachers went the extra mile to help everyone do their best and reach their full potential.” During her time at NVC, Amanda was also part of the cheerleading squad. She fondly remembers the lasting friendships she made while cheering on the Wildcat basketball team. From the court to the classroom, her experience at NVC is expressed through the Vista Value of JOY. “I love that NVC promotes learning through hands-on engaging activities and assignments that allow us to think, explore and laugh,” she added. Amanda’s advice to current students is to Communicate. “Always talk to your teachers/professors and let them know when you are struggling, or if there are personal issues affecting your performance,” she says.
