Sarah has completed an associate of arts degree in general studies from NVC, and transferred to Texas Tech University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in apparel design and manufacturing. She says without the scholarship this dream would have been put on hold. The NVC Ethics Scholarship recognizes and rewards students who demonstrate excellence in the study of ethical theory or the application of ethical theory to a significant contemporary ethical issue. Mexican-American Studies Scholarship Leo Trevino and Adelmisa Navarro-Rodriguez were recently named recipients of the NVC Mexican-American Studies scholarship. They are the first to receive this new award, which raises funds from donations and the annual MAS Golf Tournament at the Hilton Hill Country Resort and Spa. Congratulations Leo and Adelmisa. Alumni News (Courtesy Photo) Congratulations to Kimberly R. Lowery – NVC Class of 2010. Earlier this year, Kimberly graduated with a Master’s of Arts in Human Resources Management from Wayland Baptist University. She also received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Wayland Baptist University in 2010. Alumni Profile: Heather Wurtz Class of 2011 Major: Digital Media Current employer: Citi / Vice President: Tools and Knowledge Management / Media Specialist – eLearning Development (Courtesy Photo) What stands/stood out most at NVC: Flexibility on the part of the college/faculty. From what classes were offered and when to how many students could be accommodated, I found that my input was integrated into curriculum planning and availability. Who stands/stood out most AT NVC: Most, if not all, of my professors (Digital Media and otherwise) were extremely helpful and generous with their time. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the following faculty: Susan Escobar, Viviane Marioneaux, Dennis Gittinger, Barbara Holland, Misael Guerra, Alan Garner, Vinnie Bradford, Mimi Duvall and Bill Colangelo. They all impacted my experience at NVC in a positive way. In fact, some continue to provide both guidance and friendship today. What did your degree do for you: Having an AAS in Digital Media made me eligible to apply for the job I currently have. This is no small feat! After accepting this position, I found out that it had remained open for two years while they looked for someone with the skills appropriate to perform the work. I LOVE what I do (never a dull moment) and I know I would never have been hired without the skills and relationships developed at NVC.
