Major Mania is an event that happens each semester with departments and student services showcasing what they offer to students. The theme this semester was the “Game of Life.” Students were encouraged to answer quiz questions to win prizes. To view the questions, see the attachment: [file 1] [image 2]Margaret “Jo” Garcia, coordinator of Career and Transfer Services, said 100 percent of the students surveyed said they would recommend Major Mania to their friends. Students enjoyed the games, snacks/candy and the interaction with faculty. “Even if we get even just one student that figures out their educational goal plan—then the event is a success (luckily, we touched almost 300 students today),” added Jo. [image 3]Jo said although they have a great turnout, students surveyed said they hope more disciplines and student resources attend in the future, so there won’t be empty tables when they walk by. Why is it important to participate in this event? Here are just a few reasons: Visiting with students in an open environment Help inform students of the major and how you use your education in the “real world” helps students determine their career path Spark a passion for something that you are also passionate about Share your knowledge and experiences with future colleagues It actually is a lot of FUN! You are helping NVC’s mission by “creating opportunities for success” Have the opportunity to be creative in decorating your table and making interactive displays, etc. Grabbing a students’ attention. You could literally change a student’s life and goals Great opportunity for extra credit for students and credit for your tenure portfolio Did I mention that it is FUN?
