Employee of the Month for June: Paul Northway

What his co-workers say anonymously:

“He has made an exceptional effort to cultivate the most skilled and creative adjuncts in ceramics to bolster the program from a remedial program to one that incorporates basic clay chemistry, throwing, community firing and reduction. He is genuinely interested in student development and takes ownership and pride in the output. In addition he has implemented an “empty bowls” fundraiser sponsored by the ceramics studio, and is raising money for student activities.”

“He is excellent at finding complementary skills among his staff – often suggesting consult with a teacher other than himself when he feels they are able to assist, as opposed to operating and a traditional 'overseer.'

“He puts energy into promoting the department and is a key part of the reason students are traveling away from their closest campus to study art at NVC. This is exemplified by the exhibits and gallery shows he has brought to campus, the artists encouraged by his personal hospitality, contact and professionalism.”
