September 26, 2013 | SharkAdmin The Employee Giving Campaign officially kicked off with a bang on Sept. 16 at the September All College Meeting. There are two goals for this year’s NVC campaign: Reach 40 percent NVC employee participation or 126 employees Raise $60,000 in employee donations. Last year, NVC employees raised $57,944.12 for the Alamo Colleges Foundation scholarships, the United Way and theFund for the Arts. Thank you for your generosity. This year’s campaign will last eight weeks, much shorter duration than in past years. Based on the feedback we received from NVC employees in the employee survey conducted at the end of last semester, we’re focusing on student scholarships and letting employees know what impact their contributions have on our community. In the coming weeks, you will see more testimonials from our students and information on how the funds are distributed in the community. Here are just a few of the quotes from NVC students who benefited from Alamo College and NVC-specific scholarships: “Achieving this scholarship tells me that there are others who believe my dreams are valid and worthwhile of their support,” said Amanda Rios, who received the NVC Psychology Department Scholarship. “This scholarship will give me the opportunity to concentrate on being academically successful and focus on my studies,” said Carolina Gutierrez Bakun, who received the Terrazas Family Scholarship. As you can see, without your support, many of our students either would have to take fewer classes, drop out of school or put their dreams on hold. I’m thankful for the funds we are giving students and will continue to give students from the generosity of our employees and corporate donors. We all know that taking on the financial burden of higher education is not easy. If you choose to give, there are many NVC scholarships you can donate to, as well as other United Way agencies and theFund for the Arts. Thank you for your support!
