Learning with TV Show Games

Learning through popular TV game shows has come to NVC!

Manuel Cerda of Alamo Colleges Human Resources office and Jim Lievens of NVC Organizational Learning have incorporated games, such as “Family Feud” and “Jeopardy” to make learning fun.

A recent group of participants took part in the “HR – Jeopardy.” They were placed in small groups and competitively battled for the top prize, which was a basket of candy and food

“This format aids in your learning process; you’re having fun and getting involved in your own training experience,” Manuel said. “Jim invited me to co-facilitate in a session he was having for Library and Grant’s staff for 'Conducting Effective Meetings.'

We set the session to the game 'Family Feud;' and they had a blast and learned a lot. To quote one of our college touch stones, it brought 'JOY' to the learning experience.”

Manuel said the next “HR – Jeopardy” will be offered in the spring.

Some of the questions asked were:

1. We get paid every 15th and 31st of the month?

2. You must report sexual harassment only to your manager?

3.Supervisors don't have to approve your leave?
