October 4, 2013 | SharkAdmin [image 1]Major Mania is an event that is held each semester and hosted by NVC's Career and Transfer Services (CaTS). College Departments are available to talk with students who have not yet declared a major, or to share more information about career options in their major of choice. Two new highlights this year included “going virtual,” with QR codes linking smartphones with department websites, and Financial Aid had a Work-Study Job Fair during Major Mania to post awards on the spot to eligible students. [image 2]Event chairperson and Senior Coordinator, Jo Garcia, said that “Attendance this year was up about 10 percent, with 282 participants. “Students received scavenger hunt handouts to visit department tables, completed evaluations for improving the event, and spun the prize wheel to win free items,” said Angela Williams, CaTS senior coordinator. “There were also activities following the theme, 'Get in the Game.' This is a great event, which we hope will be even bigger next year.” [image 3]Upcoming events include the Transfer Fair on Monday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon in Lago Vista, and the Career Expo on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lago Vista.
