November 16, 2012 | SharkAdmin “Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” – William Arthur Ward At this time our forefathers created and that we know as Thanksgiving, I am reminded that coming to this campus creates joy for me every day. Here is a list of a few things for which I have felt gratitude recently. The opportunity that one of our housekeepers, two of our police officers, a shuttle bus driver and I had on Wednesday evening to help a tearful, distraught student who had lost her keys; the keys were found, and the tears became tears of joy. The chance to be at a Java (with Jackie) session with a group of faculty and staff where we had fun and talked seriously about why we are here. Being at a Java session with students to learn what they love about NVC and what we can do to improve. Walking across campus and encountering friendly faces of faculty and staff who are passionate about serving students. Seeing individuals and groups exhibiting a can-do spirit, be it in the classroom, advising, taking care of our campus, creating a powerful learning experience, or helping a student in distress. Encountering the spirit of giving during the Alamo Colleges Employee Giving Campaign and beyond. Being able to have holidays to refresh, renew and spend time with family and friends. I feel blessed to know each and every one of you, and I am grateful to get to be here with you. Thank you for all you do to make this college a place of learning and caring. Happy Thanksgiving!
