July 21, 2014 | SharkAdmin The Information and Communication Technology team at Northwest Vista College has completed the implementation of wireless access throughout all campus buildings as well as “green spaces,” between and around buildings. This means that students, employees and visitors can access the Internet in those areas on their laptops, tablets and mobile phones without using their personal data plans. Employees have the option to use the “ALAMONet” network and type in their computer log in credentials. Students and community can access the Alamo College public network, which is now called ALAMO_Guest Director of Information Technology Felix Salinas said he is pleased that Alamo Colleges has made it possible for all NVC stakeholders to have high-speed access to information. “Students and employees have the flexibility to move about the campus and stay connected as well as collaborate on projects while on campus,” Felix said. “Wireless access is available in areas where students and employees generally congregate on campus including the outdoor classroom by Live Oak Hall, the patio area at Cypress and Huisache Hall.” In the coming months, the Information and Communication Team will continue increasing wireless access and performance in the buildings, which will complete another phase of the wireless project. Wireless signs will also be added to help identify locations around the campus where wireless connection is available. Using public wireless network is convenient and saves money on commercial data plans, added Felix “However users must learn how to protect their information when using public WiFi,” Felix said. “You want to be more aware of public WiFi and the do's and don’ts while on any public wireless network.” To find out more on how to protect information while using public wireless network, go here: http://www.alamo.edu/nvc/about-us/wireless/ Connect2Complete is also another technology program available for Alamo College students and employees who qualify.
