February 15, 2013 | SharkAdmin [image 1]Northwest Vista College’s annual scholarship recognition breakfast on Feb. 15 once again provided scholarship donors a way to meet the recipients of the funds and learn how the scholarships have impacted student lives. Monica Cuellar-Flores, a mother of five children, returned back to college after 13 years with the goal of continuing her education. Thanks to a USAA Scholarship, she is on the route to eventually attending Texas A&M University. Alessonda Mendoza is utilizing the scholarship she received from Oppenheimer Scholars to help her pursue her goal of being a nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit. Daniel McGinty is majoring in Criminal Justice at NVC and hopes to use the Robert G. Marbut Jr. scholarship to go into public service. He plans to transfer to a four-year university this fall. These three students were among the 200 students who have received scholarships last year from various donors that range from USAA, Valero Energy Scholars Scholarship Foundation, the NVC Faculty Senate and the Vista Dash for Dollars 5K Kinesiology Scholarship. Dean, NVC director of Institutional Advancement. “For many students, receiving a scholarship means they might only have to work part-time instead of full-time, so they can dedicate more time to their studies. That’s a very meaningful gift for donors to give.” Ted Terrazas, president & CEO of Eminence Enterprises, said he has been on the board of many different college institutions and the educational value students receive at NVC is priceless. “NVC provides students with opportunities,” said Terrazas. It’s an excellent institution. The scholarships students receive go a long way, which is an excellent value.” [image 3]Donors in attendance at the event were: Rey Feo Scholarship Inc.
