November 2, 2015 | SharkAdmin Sandra began her career at NVC as a part-time employee with our College Connections program in 2011. In 2013 she moved to a full-time certified advisor position working with our Academic Standards team. Sandra is passionate about working with “her” students to make sure they complete an Associate’s degree, transition to their university of choice, and meet deadlines for applications and scholarships. Sandra helps to guide students to achieve their dreams. She recently connected a student with the UTSA Math chair that enabled the student to understand the value of a math degree. The student has a 3.9 GPA and qualified for a UTSA Distinguished Transfer scholarship as well as Phi Theta Kappa at NVC. Thanks to Sandra, this student knows what he can do with a math degree and can continue his journey at UTSA. Her colleagues have seen her dedication and say this about her: “She always greets students with a smile and has a can-do spirit. She goes above and beyond to make sure any student issues are resolved in a timely manner and assures them that they are on track for their degree.” In addition to her role as an advisor, since 2014, she has been a Student Development adjunct faculty member. This semester she is working with the students most in need of good advising and mentorship, the students with a GPA below 2.0 and in danger of academic dismissal. Sandra has a B.A. in psychology and is working on her master’s in the same field. She is a huge SPURS fan and has a Pug named Manu!
