June 4, 2015 | SharkAdmin [image 1]Northwest Vista College's 17th graduation ceremony was held on May 18 and had about 600 graduates walk across the stage. While official numbers are still being tallied, it looks like NVC is on track to have another breakout year in terms of awarding associate degrees and certificates. [image 2]Roque Heredia, NVC's Graduation advising team leader, said the goal is to reach 1,880 degrees and certificates for the fall, spring and summer semesters of fiscal year 2015. If NVC reaches this goal, it would mean graduation rates have increased year-over-year for the last six years. To see previous graduation rates, go here. Just this past semester, NVC reached a huge milestone by awarding 822 associate degrees and certificates (730 associate degrees and 92 certificates) – a 78 percent increase over the fall semester of 2013. Those fall numbers will be combined with the summer and spring terms to make that final number, which hopefully will total 1,880 or more. While students were getting checked in at the Freeman Coliseum on graduation night, NVC Alumni and Friends raised $405 selling carnations at the ceremony in the lobby of the building. [image 3]NVC student Kristina Mahler volunteered for the evening to help with sales. Kristina is studying pre-med at NVC. Her brother Julien Mahler is a NVC graduate who continues to be an active volunteer on campus. All proceeds go towards the NVC Alumni Scholarship fund. The amount raised will help guarantee next year’s award. To see some photos from the NVC Graduation, visit this Facebook link.
