January 31, 2014 | SharkAdmin [image 1] NVC Employee Gary Bowling said it best for the January All College Meeting, “this is the saddest meeting I've been to in over 10 years at this institution. Our beloved president announced her retirement.” At the end of the meeting, NVC President Jackie Claunch tearfully read her retirement letter. Many in the audience also cried with her. But before the letter, Jackie shared some important college information at the meeting that was hosted by NVC Staff Council. [image 2]CCSSE Benchmarks – The 2013 numbers showed slight decreases to not much change from the previous year, which is concerning. Jackie said the two areas that will be eyed for improved are active and cooperative learning and advising. She said an emphasis will be placed on getting more adjunct faculty trained in collaborative learning tactics. Recycling – There is new a recycling process. [image 3]New Digital Media Student Fund – Thanks to NVC Digital Media Coordinator Viviane Marioneaux and an anonymous donor, there is now a New Digital Media Student Fund at the Alamo Colleges Foundation. To donate, look up NVC Digital Media Student Fund or 340052 when giving online. NVC Budget – NVC Vice President of College Services Julie Pace encouraged those who deal with the budget to get more engaged this year. She said contact your budget manager or the budget officer to get involved or search “Kickoff” in SharePoint to view the presentation. [image 4]NVC Staff Scholarship Award – Christina Brown of NVC Student Success was awarded a $500 NVC Staff Council Scholarship. The deadline for the fall award is July 15. NVC Org Learning – Look in AlamoLearn in ACES for these upcoming classes: Private 1-on-1 or small group Microsoft Training. Schedule the training through Christina Maldonado at ext. 6-4789. Social Media Training – Learn the basics of Facebook and Twitter on Feb. 20 and Using Social Media to Communicate with Students on Feb. 27.
