“Having a degree has opened up new doors for me and given me an open mind to all the different possibilities that are out there.”

Working in the Dual Credit department at Northwest Vista College, Julie Boerm interacts with a lot of students, advising them on college and how to go further in their academic careers.

Julie has also made sure to utilize her own advice to others. She received an associate’s degree in Biological Sciences from NVC and is currently working on a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University in San Antonio.

Even as a single mom of three busy kids and working full time, Julie saw the importance of getting an education and how this can encourage her own kids. Her oldest daughter is now taking classes at NVC.

“Going back to school and getting my associate’s degree helped me believe in myself by realizing it is never too late. I admit, it is harder when you have to work full time and take care of your family, but it can be achieved.”

Julie advises students to take advantage of what NVC has to offer, especially the small classroom settings and the one on one personal interest with instructors that are willing to go out of their way to help achieve goals and future endeavors.

“It is never too late to go to school, but the sooner you get started the closer you get to achieving that degree that might just open up the perfect opportunity to make a difference in your life and in someone else’s life,” Julie said.
