June 16, 2016 | SharkAdmin “At Northwest Vista College I fell in love with learning.” Nanette Lechner received her Associate of Arts in General Studies from Northwest Vista College in 2012. Currently she is employed part time as a Student Success Specialist at NVC, working in the Dual Credit area. Nanette is also going to school full time seeking her degree in EC-6 Generalist Education at Texas A&M University San Antonio. Nanette said what stood out to her while attending NVC was having outstanding professors that helped her become a better student. She was also very involved in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the National Society of Leadership & Success. These two organizations gave her the confidence to apply to Texas A&M. “My Associates degree from NVC gave me more than just a piece of paper. It helped me reach my first education goal and I knew from here on out, I could keep on going.” Nanette said since coming to NVC, she has personally grown more confident, through the Leadership Society and Phi Theta Kappa. “I was afraid when I applied to NVC that I would be turned away. I didn’t believe I could pass any college course, but thought I should give it a try. I became confident in my studies and learned to shine as a leader. I have become an honor student and that is huge! Growing up, I struggled to make C’s and making B’s were pretty much out of reach.” Nanette encourages to other students that attending college is a short term sacrifice – away from family, little income, long hours studying, but it is well worth it for the long term goal! “I will graduate at the age of 57 and if I can do this, you can do this!” Favorite Vista Value: Synergy.
