New Interim VP of Academic Success

Northwest Vista College welcomes Richard Drum, Ph.D, as the interim vice president of Academic Success. 

Richard is taking over for Dr. Jimmie Bruce, who's leaving to serve as president of Eastern Gateway Community College

Richard is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Texas at San Antonio and has been teaching for over 40 years. Prior to his appointment at UTSA, Richard served in many positions with Alamo Colleges, such as interim head of Human Resources, interim vice chancellor for Administration and project coordinator for Institutional Advancement.

Before Alamo Colleges, Richard also held numerous leadership positions at community colleges from president at Dodge City Community College to positions at other two-year colleges, such as director, dean and vice president.

Richard is a published author and is known to travel the U.S., speaking on many topics related to teaching and the college experience. Before his life in academia, he also held some odd jobs from being an oil field roustabout, a photographer's assistant, a supermarket assistant, selling encyclopedias to being a recreational leader for Austin's Parks department.
