August 21, 2015 | SharkAdmin Nine Northwest Vista College students, including one student currently attending Palo Alto but planning to transfer to NVC in the fall, have been gaining hands-on experience in problem solving, technical skills and presentations during the College2Career paid internship program this summer at Nationwide. The students visited the July NVC Business Council meeting and shared their perspectives on the program. Comments ranged from “it’s a great opportunity” to “I’m learning to work better in a team” to “very convenient location to NVC”. During the summer, this group has learned about the company’s corporate culture and values, the commitment to volunteerism and service to others, insurance terms, regulations, products and concepts and strategies for developing a career with Nationwide. Dre’ Hardeman, talent acquisition manager at Nationwide and member of the NVC Business Council, reported that the students have been praised by other Nationwide team members for the quality of their work. She says the program is “an incredibly successful program for Nationwide.” Participating students include Mark Vidaurri, Raymond Hernandez, Demaris Cliffe, Jonathan Bernal, Justin Guerrero, Joe Navarro, Myreya Casias, Natalie Marroquin and Bryan Kelp. Although now attending the University of Texas at San Antonio, Raymond met with Nationwide and was hired in the sales program while a student at NVC where he served as president of the NVC Business Student Organization. Myreya is currently a student at Palo Alto College but is transferring to NVC for the fall semester. These students will have the opportunity to work part-time at Nationwide while attending NVC classes during the fall semester. The company is planning a similar program for next summer.
