January 23, 2013 | SharkAdmin In the recent winter edition of the NVC Alumni and Friends e-newsletter graduates were asked to share their favorite Vista Value and why. NVC President Jackie Claunch's message to alumni invited readers to email or post their responses on the NVC Alumni and Friends Facebook page. All nine of the Vista Values were individually selected as a favorite, with Creativity and Integrity being the top two responses. Alumni who chose to participate were sent an NVC Alumni and Friends window sticker for use in their car, office or at home. Here is what some alumni had to say. “My favorite core value is Creativity, we are all creative in our own ways and our creativeness shines in our chosen fields :D” – Andrea Parker “NVC was a great place to earn an associate's degree. The core value that means the most to me is Integrity. We live in a society where we all want to succeed and prosper. As we all strive for great things many of us lose our way and fall victim to unethical practices. We should try to remember what's important in life and find the ethical path to great success. Our first and most valuable possession is our own name, and through reputation and action, that name should be synonymous with Integrity.” – Michael Mireles “My favorite core value is Creativity. Sometimes us engineers have to be creative to come up with an answer to a problem.” – Carlos Cantu “My favorite core value from NVC has got to be Joy. I also value laughter and play that enriches our work and lives. I believe laughter is the best medicine. Being joyful in everything you do not only does good for yourself, but it also affects the people who you come in contact with. Being joyful is such a powerful emotion and I'm glad NVC has it as one of its core values because it also is one of my own values.” – Jose Arzave “I would have to say Diversity is what I appreciated the most. The atmosphere was tailored to each students needs whether by the teachers or the campus as a whole.” – Josie Martinez “Integrity– By implanting integrity in our daily lives we demonstrate honesty, openness, and respect in all we do. Not only do I practice this in school and the work place but I have come to have this value instilled in me through the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Division.” – Sonny Escobar “My favorite Vista Value is Creativity. Northwest Vista allowed me the think outside the box which helped me be better acclimated to all situations.” – Georgina Rose “Diversity. Through exposure to different walks of life, we can better understand each other and the different lifestyle that exist among us. This is my favorite Vista Value.” – Chris Kichura “Synergy: I am a very social person and enjoy working with others. I learn better and grasp concepts working with my classmates than just working on my own. Collaboration helps me see different perspectives than just what I think about a certain topic.” – Adriana Sanchez “My favorite Vista Values, as an NVC alumni are Openness and Caring. These values mean a lot to me because when I was a student at NVC I was going through some serious health issues that presented a challenge for me. The professors, staff and administration all took the time and effort to listen to my concerns and helped me succeed in my college career. Northwest Vista College not only displays their values, they live by them.” – Ronni Hunt
