September 26, 2012 | SharkAdmin [image 1]The Alamo Colleges Foundation held the fourth consolidated scholarship application judging event on Sept. 21 at the Southwest Campus of St. Philip’s College. Participating colleges included NVC, San Antonio College and St. Philip’s College. Over 2,100 students applied online for Foundation scholarships by the Sept. 15 deadline. That number represents 19 percent more than the number of students applying this time last year, according to Jim Eskin, executive director of the Foundation. Awards range from $200 to $3,000 per academic year with an average award amount of approximately $750. The scholarship pays for student’s tuition, fees, books and other educational costs. NVC faculty and staff members serving as judges included Cristina Pandaru, Mary Dixson, Ruth Prieto, Eva Gaitan, Paul Northway, Zak Cernoch, Angelica Esparza, Kori Schneider, Jimena Marin, Migdalia Garcia and Daniel Johnson. [image 2]NVC President Jackie Claunch stopped by the judging area to express appreciation to the judges for their important role in the scholarship process. Lynne T. Dean, NVC director of Institutional Advancement; Lucy Gauna, NVC scholarship coordinator; and Manny Martinez, NVC alumni coordinator and research specialist, helped facilitate the judging event.
