Ric Baser to Succeed Jackie Claunch as NVC President

Alamo Colleges Chancellor Bruce Leslie and the board of trustees selected Ric Neal Baser as president of Alamo Colleges-Northwest Vista College on July 1. Baser will succeed Jacqueline “Jackie” E. Claunch, who is retiring at the end of August.

“I am honored by the chancellor and board of trustees’ selection and the trust they have placed in me as the second president of Northwest Vista College, a college with a rich tradition and enviable student success rate,” said Baser.

Currently Baser is the vice president and chief academic officer at Tulsa Community College in Oklahoma, where he leads and provides fiscal guidance to six of the president's cabinet members including campus provosts, associate vice presidents, deans and directors. He works alongside 1,500 academic and student affairs employees.

His prior experience also includes serving as vice president for academic affairs at Rose State College and Seminole State College, instructor at The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, and director of school relations and student activities at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

Baser says he is excited to join the leadership team and continue “the mission of the Alamo Colleges in providing access to high quality academic and workforce programs in a strategic effort to positively change the lives of all those that we serve.”

Baser holds a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the University of Science of Oklahoma, a Master of Arts in Speech from Oklahoma State University and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from Oklahoma State University.

“As a college, NVC will be diligent in assuring that every single student is afforded every opportunity that would enhance their propensity for success,” Baser added. “I am committed to leading the outstanding Northwest Vista College faculty and staff in exceeding the expectations of the San Antonio community and the Alamo Colleges district.”

Leslie and the Alamo Colleges trustees acknowledged and thanked current NVC President Jackie Claunch for her years of dedicated service and commitment to student success.
