Stay the Course & Spring Arts Lineup

As most of you know, one of our three college strategic plan objectives is “student completion.”  This objective aligns with the goal for all of our Alamo Colleges to improve graduation rates.  One of the strategies to support the goal of improving graduation is the development of a “STAY THE COURSE” series.

On Tuesday, March 19, all staff and faculty, including adjunct will receive an e-mail message with a video designed to highlight the vital role each of you plays in our students’ success.  While the message at each college has common themes, each college president had some latitude to modify the script to fit the culture.

I hope you will take a look at the video and let me know what you think – positive or negative – so that I can in turn give appropriate feedback as we move forward with the STAY THE COURSE series.

Spring Arts Lineup

The Palmetto Center for the Arts has an exciting lineup of events for the month of April. The performances are affordable to the public and discounted for seniors, the military and students.

Thanks to the Friends of the Arts (FANS), a group of community arts supporters at NVC, the theater has active advocacy helping it to fill seats and raise money. The goal is to keep promoting the theater to make it a sought-after venue on the city’s Northwest Side, but there is much work to be done to inform the community of the talent offered by our students and faculty.

To see for yourself what is happening, visit Palmetto’s calendar at www.alamo.edu/nvc/PalmettoCalendar. You can also learn more about some of the performances by visiting Palmetto’s Facebook page at this link.

With some of the future performances, folks will now be able to pay for them online, so visit the calendar link to find out more.

You may also know of individuals (or be interested yourself) in Friends of the Arts: one can become a member for as little as $25, although individuals have donated $1,000 or more. The funds go to support student scholarships, permanent art collections, guest artists, etc.  To learn more about FANs, click here.
