Viviane Marioneaux

Coordinator, Digital Media, New Media Arts, New Media Communications

Through hard work and perseverance, Viviane Marioneaux was able to successfully make the transition from staff employee to full-time faculty, now overseeing three programs.

Many of the students in those programs are looking to get jobs, receive associate degrees, transfer to four-year universities or earn certificates, allowing them to make more money in their careers. The digital media program she oversees projects high job growth with employers looking for graphic designers, Web designers and digital media specialists.

Viviane said when she first came to NVC six years ago, the NVC value that best described her was openness because she has no problem being open and speaks what’s on her mind.

“Over the years, I became more caring. I have such passion for our campus and students that it has made me want to take extra time to stop and care. Caring has made me a better listener and has helped me problem solve more effectively.”

What is your background?
“I was born and raised in Augsburg, Germany until I was 15. German is my first language.”

What is your educational background?
“I have a bachelor’s of science from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in Graphic Design with an emphasis in Web Design. My master’s degree is in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University. I’m now working on an Ed.D from Northcentral University in E-learning.”

Where did you work prior to NVC?
“I worked in the industry for a total of 15 years as a graphic artist, technical illustrator and Web designer with the last six years at NVC. I started as a temp for 90 days and then went full time for four years in Public Relations as a senior multimedia specialist. During this time, I was an adjunct in Digital Media and Gaming. I did one semester as a faculty intern and one-and-a-half years as a full-time adjunct before getting hired.”

In my new role, I’m also the coordinator of three programs – Digital Media, New Media Arts and New Media Communications.”

What is the best part about working at NVC?
“I like the atmosphere and the people.”

What is the most rewarding part about your job?
“As much as I love the subject matter I teach, I love being able to successfully guide a student through to graduation, transferring to another institution, or receiving a job.”

What are your hobbies, interests, favorite activities?
“I’m the children’s director at my church, the BlueJeanChurch.org on Sundays. I’m big into cooking for allergies especially wheat, gluten, dairy, corn, and egg-free things since I’m allergic to those.

And of course I love to play disc golf. I’m proud of the fact I was instrumental in proposing and helping NVC get its own course.”

Do you have a personal motto that you live by?
“We experience some difficulties in life not because of what we did in the past but so that we don't become them in the future.

I never look at things that happen to me when I have a bad day as me being punished or ask ‘oh why me,’ but rather take it as an opportunity to change or learn from it.”
